Snake on a Pole

I was renewed at the Minnesota Women’s Retreat with Elizabeth Talbot’s talks on the book of John.  Elizabeth has a way of bringing the Bible alive.  If you ever have a chance to hear her speak don’t pass it up.  Well, you can actually hear her on the Voice of Prophesy every day she is one of the key speakers.  You may also go to www.vop.com and hear Elizabeth.

I know you all are so much more advanced than I am on the Bible but I just never put this together.  Do you remember the story of Moses and the snakes?  The children of Israel were being bitten by snakes and the Lord told Moses to put a snake on a pole and when the Israelites looked on the snake they would be healed.  Take a look at Numbers 21:4-9.  The people of Israel are tired and impatient.  They hate everything.  Venomous snakes start biting the people and many die.  When the people repent they ask Moses to help them.  God told Moses to, “Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole. . .when he looks at the snake, he will live.”  verse 8

It’s the same with salvation–all be have to do is look upon Jesus and believe–don’t you love that it’s so simple.  John 3:14-17–read it–“As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; so whoever believes on Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”

There you have it and it’s not complicated is it?

The Book I Love

Today in church the sermon was about the Bible.  It was interesting and it inspired me to continue to read the Scripture.  At the beginning of summer I started reading my Bible through, again.  Just as the speaker said today, I always get bogged down in Numbers.  I actually skipped most of Numbers and felt sorta like I was cheating.  It was nice to know the speaker today also skipped Numbers.

The sermon reminded me that the Bible is always relevant no matter where we are in life.  The things that may speak to us today may not mean much to us next month.  It all depends on where we are in life.

This afternoon I read part of Judges, I find it so very interesting how God’s people would abide in Him for a few years and then totally fall away.  Have you ever wondered if the Bible was being written right now how would our history look?  Would we look as crazy as the people of old?  Probably even more so.

There is great comfort in the Bible, when my heart is heavy or I feel restless I find peace in His Word.  I hope you do too.
